Diet Ideas App
Diet Ideas highlights seamless integration of meal tracking, weight management, blood monitoring, with direct communication with nutritionists and hassle-free appointment booking.
Overview
In this case study, we explore the design and development process of a comprehensive diet app aimed at assisting users in tracking their meals, weight, and blood components. Additionally, the app provides features for users to engage in direct communication with nutritionists and book appointments with them, enhancing the overall user experience and promoting healthier lifestyle choices.
Problem Statement
How can we create a dieting app that addresses the lack of organized tracking and professional guidance by integrating key functionalities, such as real-time communication with nutritionists and convenient appointment booking systems, to provide users with comprehensive support in achieving their health goals?
Roles & Responsibilities
As the lead of the UX/UI Design team, I was responsible for designing the user interface of the Diet Ideas application, overseeing the process from the discovery phase through to the creation of high-fidelity mock-ups and interactive prototypes over six months. I independently conducted meetings with the client's entire team to ensure that all expectations were met. Additionally, I broadened my focus by conducting usability testing and implementing revisions to the mock-ups to optimize the user experience.
Phase 1 : Discovery & Research
During the discovery and research phase for the dieting app, I focused on understanding the core needs of users who struggled with organized tracking and access to professional guidance. I conducted user research, including interviews and surveys, to gather insights into their challenges and behaviours. By analyzing competitors and identifying gaps in existing solutions, I developed user personas and mapped out user journeys to pinpoint where our app could make a difference. I then synthesized these findings into clear problem statements, aligning them with the app’s business goals, and set the design direction to ensure our solution was both user-centric and impactful.
Phase 2 : Design & Iteration
During the design and iteration phase of the Diet Ideas app, I transformed our research insights into user-centered designs by creating wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes. I focused on visual and interaction design, ensuring the app was both intuitive and aligned with the brand’s identity. I collaborated closely with developers to ensure the designs were implemented accurately and iterated on the design based on user feedback, making continuous improvements to enhance the user experience.
Tools & Methods
I primarily used Figma for design and prototyping, relying extensively on user research to identify pain points, behaviours, and needs. I then continued to refine my design concept during the second phase of the project.
Interview Insights
The team conducted 1-on-1 user interviews with individuals who were actively trying to manage their diets and health goals. These conversations helped us identify the most valuable features users needed. Many participants emphasized the importance of personalized diet plans and real-time communication with a nutritionist to ensure they were receiving tailored advice. Users also highlighted the need for a convenient appointment booking system for consultations. Based on this feedback, I created wireframes and mock-ups for these key features and developed a prototype with real-time communication functionality. After gathering more insights through user testing, I made adjustments to further refine the app's usability and ensure it aligned with user expectations.

Challenges & Scope
The biggest challenge faced was creating a user-friendly experience that effectively balanced personalized diet recommendations with real-time nutritionist support. Although integrating real-time communication was not initially within the scope of the design, we collaborated closely with the development team to ensure a seamless interface that would not overwhelm users. For instance, implementing a streamlined booking process for nutritionist appointments required careful consideration to maintain simplicity while providing all necessary functionalities. This approach ensured that users received personalized guidance without compromising the app's ease of use.

Design Process
For users of the Diet Ideas app, it was essential to create a seamless and personalized experience that caters to diverse dietary needs. We designed two iterations of the onboarding and diet plan customization workflows, testing them with a group of 15 users over a span of two weeks. Based on feedback, we refined the app’s interface to include personalized meal plan recommendations, interactive progress tracking, and easy-to-access real-time communication with nutritionists. We also integrated engaging elements like daily tips, reminders, and motivational prompts to keep users committed to their health goals.
Style Guide & UI Design
The Diet Ideas app utilizes a vibrant and modern color palette that is both engaging and user-friendly, designed to motivate users on their health journey. The interface is clean and organized, with clear navigation and intuitive icons that make it easy for users to access key features quickly. Typography is consistent and legible, ensuring that all information is easily readable, enhancing the overall user experience.
Final Design
The Diet Ideas app features several key functionalities designed to enhance the user experience. The login screen offers a secure and simple entry point into the app. The dashboard provides an organized overview of the user's diet program, schedule, and health records, allowing for easy navigation between different sections. The appointment schedulingfeature enables users to view, book, or reschedule their sessions with a nutritionist directly within the app. Additionally, the chat screen allows users to communicate in real-time with their nutritionist, ensuring they receive timely advice and support throughout their diet journey.
The Diet Ideas app continues to offer a visually cohesive and user-friendly experience. The meal tracking feature is seamlessly integrated into the app, allowing users to easily log their meals and monitor their calorie intake throughout the day. With a straightforward search function and intuitive layout, users can quickly add meals and view their progress, ensuring they stay on track with their dietary goals. The consistent use of vibrant colors and clear typography enhances usability, making the app both functional and engaging.
Comprehensive Design
Our Comprehensive Design integrates both an admin and experts panel to create a seamless and efficient ecosystem for managing and delivering personalized health services. The admin panel empowers administrators to oversee day-to-day business operations, including adding new service programs, publishing blogs, tracking user activity, and assigning experts to users. Meanwhile, the experts panel allows professionals to engage directly with users, schedule appointments, chat in real-time, send tailored meal plans, and monitor users' meal logs. This holistic approach ensures that all aspects of the user experience are managed efficiently, fostering a supportive and interactive environment for both administrators and health experts.
-
The project faced the challenge of scope expansion due to additional client requests. To overcome this, clear communication and regular check-ins with the client were established to prioritize features and manage expectations.
-
Combining diverse functionalities like meal tracking, real-time chat, and appointment scheduling was complex. This was managed by creating a well-organized design workflow and closely collaborating with the development team to ensure seamless integration.
-
Some users were hesitant to adopt the new app due to its unfamiliarity. To address this, we implemented an intuitive onboarding process and provided in-app tutorials to guide users through key features.
✺ Navigating Hurdles✺
-
The project initially struggled with delays in client feedback, affecting the design timeline. To resolve this, a structured feedback loop with set deadlines was established, ensuring timely responses and smooth progression.
-
Ensuring the app was visually appealing while maintaining usability was a challenge. This was overcome by conducting user testing at various stages to find the right balance and make necessary adjustments.
-
Ensuring a consistent user experience across both iOS and Android platforms was challenging due to differing design guidelines. This was overcome by creating a unified design system that adhered to platform-specific requirements while maintaining a cohesive look and feel across the app.
